After His resurrection and before His return to the Father, Jesus told His disciples: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” Matthew 28:19-20.
On June 11th through June 15th approximately 60 members of the Mt. Juliet congregation went to Chattanooga, Tennessee to obey this commandment that many call “the great commission”. We left around 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning and arrived at the Inner City church of Christ around 9:00 a.m. After everyone settled in, Doug Perry led us in a devo. He did a wonderful job using 2 Corinthians 13:5 as his text. This became our theme for the campaign as we examined ourselves backward, forward, inward, and upward. After a song and a prayer we loaded onto seven buses and vans to go door knocking. This same process would be repeated for the next four days until at least 8,000 doors were knocked and many invitations to study the Bible were given to the inner city residents of Chattanooga.
The results to date have been ten baptisms and three restorations. We pray to God that each of these will remain faithful to Him. Also, another very important result occurred as it always does for those who go on a trip such as this. We now have the courage and knowledge to do Bible studies. Many of us can’t wait to do another study. May God give us that opportunity. We give Him all praise and glory.
