God's Love

by Joey Davis

He was on his way to Texas. His wife had just died and he had his three children in the car with him. They had the misfortune of having car trouble enroute.

He looked for a church to help him. He came upon one of our sister churches. Not willing to help, they gave him our phone number and directions to our church. arrangements were made and he received necessary help to get he and his children back on their way to Texas.

It is a crying shame that our sister church didn't attempt to help. It seems that in our society, even the Christian society, people don't want to be bothered with other people's problems. I came upon this poem recently and wanted to share it with you. Its author is unknown, yet its message is powerful. . .

I was hungry and you formed a humanities club to discuss my hunger. . . Thank you.

I was imprisoned and you crept off quietly to your chapel to pray for my release. . . Nice.

I was naked and you debated the morality Of my appearance. . . What good did that do?

I was sick and you knelt and thanked God for your health. . . But I needed you.

I was homeless and you preached to me of the shelter of the love of God . . .I wish you'd taken me home.

I was lonely and you left me alone to pray for me . . . Why didn't you stay?

You seem so holy, so close to God; but I'm still very hungry, lonely, cold, and still in pain. . . Does it matter?

May we always be known as a church that will help people. We are blessed beyond measure. But we didn't earn these blessings; we have been afforded them by a Master who trusts us to use them wisely. May God's love rule our hearts.
