Hope

by Joey Davis

There is nothing like hope. It keeps us from losing our sanity in times of crisis and gives us comfort in seasons of doubt. This past Sunday morning, my son taught me a great lesson about hope.

Services were over. It was time to go home. Melissa began rounding up the children but had no idea where Sawyer had gore. As she walked down the hallway of the education building, she heard someone crying. It was Sawyer. Sawyer had locked himself in a classroom. He was frantic! It didn't take long for a crowd to gather and soon we were scrawling for old keys and doing our best to break into the air vent in the metal door. Greg Myers took a screwdriver .and began dismantling the vent.

When Sawyer saw that we were trying to get him out, he calmed down. I even think for a little while he played with some of the toys in the classroom.

When we finally freed Sawyer, being angry over the fact that he had gone where he did not belong didn't enter my mind. I was relieved that he was out and the ordeal was over. I was also proud of Sawyer's faith in us to free him. Somehow, somewhere, he knew that it was only a matter of time until his rescue. He knew that he was in a safe place and that those he could1't see would rot leave him trapped. He had faith that led to hope. . .

. . . Sometimes we can feel trapped in a world that might be entertaining, but it's not home. As a matter of fact, there was a barrier between us and our home with the Father. How miserable it would be to feel that the door between earth and eternity would never be opened! However, on a cross outside of Jerusalem, our Savior Jesus unlocked the door that leads to home.

Knowing that the door to God's throne room is open and that He's not going to leave me here has made a significant difference in my life. I can endure this world when I'm certain that it's only a matter of time until rescue. I will endure this world when I'm certain that the are whom I cannot see has promised not to leave me here. The love of God and the cross of Christ assures me that I'm not stuck here. that my eternal passage has been cleared, .and that my Father is waiting. . . and that gives me hope!
