Dear Dorothy

by Joey Davis

Dear Dorothy,

When you decided that you would not return to your job here at church, you said that you didn't want any "big deal" made of your leaving.

That doesn't surprise me. You never expected any "big deal" to be made over you while you were here, so why would you when you left?

However, since you no longer work here (and can't tell me what to do anymore ha, ha), there are some things that I want to, say to you. And anyone who is interested can feel free to eavesdrop.

People who don't know you very well have no idea what a strong and capable person you are. Many of the things you have done in service to our congregation have gone unnoticed. They are unnoticed because they are the kind of things that have to be done, but only draw attention when they go undone.

For many years you have been the world's first point of contact at Mt. Juliet Church of Christ. In my time with you, never have you let the church down or done anything to slow the furtherance of the kingdom. I am certain that your service here has been quite pleasing to the Father!

My association with you over the past five years has been unforgettable. Yet, you need to realize that I consider you more than a co-worker. You have been there for me when I needed an ear to bend and a shoulder to cry on. You have been, and still are, a trusted friend and faithful confidant.

When I came here, you took me under your wing. You treated a lost little boy like a son. I am grateful for the kindness you have shown, the understanding you have afforded, and the advice you have given. Even when you had to say something negative to me, it was always administered with a "spoonful of sugar"

Jesus once stated that His mother, brothers and sister? were those who "know and do the will of God." I want you to always remember that no matter where my life's work takes me, no matter where I'm lead in my spiritual journey, I will always consider you my "mother in the faith."

Thank you for the things you have said as well as the things that you didn't. May you and Jack have a long life together and truly enjoy your retirement.

Proverbs 31:28-31,

Joey
