Character Counts

by Joey Davis

"For nothing is hidden that shall not become evident, nor anything secret that shall not be known and come to light. "

Jesus Christ ( Luke 8: 17)

"You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time. But you can't fool all of the people all of the time. "

Abraham Lincoln

ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, CNN, USA Today, WSMV, et. al., have missed the point. The question of the American media to the American people seems to be, "do you forgive President Clinton?" My answer to that question is yes. I have been commanded by Jesus to forgive at a rate of seven times seventy. God has been merciful with me, therefore I have an obligation to be merciful with Bill Clinton.

But forgiveness is not the issue. The real question is, "do you trust a man who is constantly being caught in lies?" I am fully aware that there is a difference between telling a lie and being a liar. One is a failure in judgement The other is a chosen lifestyle. As much as it pains me to say it, our President is a liar. Please pray for him. . . but don't feel that you are obliged to trust him!

Job 24:25 tells us that if a man is found a liar, then his speech becomes worthless. Proverbs 17:4 tells us that a liar listens to deceitful tongues, meaning that they surround themselves with others who are also reckless with the truth. Proverbs 19:22 states that it is better to be a poor man than a liar. And most convincingly, John 8:44 tells us that the ultimate liar and father of all lies is Satan.

We live in a society where lying is considered as acceptable as the truth. Last night, WSMV covered the President's speech from McCabes Pub (a beer joint being the best WSMV could do to find a moral, upright opinion). The patrons laughed at the President but didn't seem to think that all of this was a "big deal" The underlying opinion seemed to be that the President is doing a good job running the country, so his personal life isn't important.

Not a big deal? Ask Chelsea Clinton if this is a big deal. Ask the wife to whom he swore before God and men he would remain faithful, and who supported him publicly, if this is a big deal. Ask his allies who have stumped for him on this issue because they "believed the President" if this is a big deal.

For all of those who blame Ken Starr for this mess, I have one thing to say. . . If the President would have told the truth from the beginning he, not Mr. Starr, could have saved us $40 million.

Character counts. It counts because God says it does!
