The Eyes

by John Thomas

The eyes are so important to us. You never seem to think about your eyes until you have a problem with them, do you? Sunday afternoon, I was burning some wood and a piece of burning some wood and piece of ash or dust flew in my eye and it hurt all get out! It was just a troublesome, constant, burning grain-of-sand feeling, pain. It wasn't really all that big of a deal, but it didn't feel that way at the time! It wasn't that I couldn't see, it was just that it was a constant nagging feeling! It felt as though I had stuck something about the size of my left thumb though my eyeball!

This event reminded me of the story in Matthew 7:1-6. When something is wrong in someone else's life, it is plain to see that it is a big problem and it is easy to judge them for the wrong that they have done. Yet, when it is us that has faltered we would rather that people just look away and ignore our wrongdoing.

Many times the things we make such a big deal about are not really a big deal at all. Let's be quick to foregive each other, slow to judge each other, and as always, ready to accept things and people for what they really are, and love them anyways!
