Got Faith?

by John Thomas

I never liked the idea of going to a doctor who was PRACTICING medicine! If there is something wrong with us, we want to fmd out exactly what it is and we expect that our doctor will know exactly what to do about it.
Well, somewhere down the line even a doctor has to practice to learn the skills he needs to be a doctor. I have entitled the heading for my articles "Medicine For The Soul". Does that mean I have all the answers? No! But I'm practicing.
I'm trying to learn the answers myself, so I can pass on those things that are true to those around me. I don't have all the answers, but I know the One who does. So I try to turn folks back that way when they come to me for an answer.

If you want to be good at anything, you must practice. Repetition is the key to most anything. Every time you succeed, it builds your confidence. Time after time...over and over... then try again...repetition...repetition...repetition!

So it is with our faith. The more we practice, the more confident we get; not in ourselves, but in God! So what kind of confidence are we building and why? So we can build our pride? No- James 4:6 says: "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble". Verse 7 tells us to submit to God. Verse 8 tells us to draw near to God. Verse 10 tells us to humble ourselves in His sight. Ifwe do these things then he will draw near to us and lift us up.

Read through the titles of the passages in James and see what faith can do when put into action. Remember Faith without works is dead. James 2:26

Faith... obeys, removes discrimination, proves itselfby works, controls the tongue, produces wisdom, produces humility, draws you closer to God, makes you dependent on God, ENDURES!, prays for the afflicted, and confronts the erring brother.

Want to be faithful? You gotta practice! From where does faith come? Romans 10: 17- Hearing. From where does hearing come? The word of God! Want Faith? You have to hear the word of God, then practice, practice, practice! Pick out one of these things and work on it today. Let's practice our Christianity.
