Tending the Garden

by John Thomas

Just like we would work a garden, so must we tend to things in our spiritual lives. The prettiest garden is almost always the one that is most tended. Of course there will be some soil that is easier to work, or naturally more fertile, but as we till and add the proper things the soil needs, the ground gives us what we need. It takes some knowledge to know what things are proper to add to the soil. It takes some planning, so you don't have things growing on top of something else that prevents it from producing what it should. You can use the same ground for several different crops, but for them to work well together, it takes a little planning.
Oh there's nothing like a good dose of Sevin's Dust to annihilate those pesky little things in our garden; something that just shoots down those things, or people we don't like. There is only one problem with dusting for bugs...you can't expect to dust and turn immediately around and eat that fruit. No one wants to eat of fruit that has just been dusted or sprayed for bugs. So remember when you "dust" to dust carefully and use proper timing and use as directed in The Instructions or you might just ruin someone' s good fruit!
Anyone who has ever done much work at all in a garden knows the toughest job of all is keeping the weeds out. It is a burden, it is no fun, and it breaks your back. That's why it is called work! But, it must be done! That is what makes the garden look nice. No matter how good the soil is or how well the desirable plants start out doing, if the weeds are mixed in with them, the garden is just not what it should be. It is not enough to say.. . "Well I grew my tomato plant five foot tall and it grew lots of tomatoes. If it has briars surrounding it so that we cannot get to the tomatoes, then what good does it do us to grow the tomatoes in the first place?
We have to work the soil.
We have to add good things to our lives. We have to know what's good!
It takes lots of planning. We must always be thinking of better ways to do things, and stick to the ways that cannot be improved upon. Trust only the safest plan. We can't plant the seed hap-hazardly!
Get rid of the things that are deadly to the church, but do it wisely, and by the directions in the book! You might kill something you don't want or need to!
It takes a lot of work: sometimes back-breaking, crow-eating work, but it has to be done! You have to get rid of the JUNK in your life or you'll never taste the sweet taste of the fruits, because you can't get to them!
Remember: (as always) The Lord giveth the increase!
