Storms of Life
by John Thomas
Mark 4:35 - 41
Also Matthew 8:23 - 27 and Luke 8:22-25
Jesus had just chosen the twelve ( Mark 3:13). Jesus tells the parables. Mark 4:1-20 is the parable of the soils. Mark 4:21 25 is the parable of the candlestick. Mark 4:26-29 sets a pattern of growth for the kingdom of God. Mark 4:30-34 is the parable of the mustard seed.
What are the first teachings of Jesus to those who would be his closest companions? What does He say to encourage them and start them on the right foot?
1) If you don't understand the parable of the soils, you will not understand the rest of the parables ( Mark 4:13). Don'tbea "choosy sower". Don't try to be a soil tester to analyze how much yield you will have.
Only God knows: ( Mark 4:20) "some thirty, some sixty, some an hundred. "
2) Let your light shine. Tell it! Preach it!
3) It is harvest time!
4) The kingdom of God may start small, but will be the greatest thing on earth.
5) At the end of the day, they went to pass to the other side of the water. There arose a great storm. The people were worriedfor their life. lVhen the storm
came, they turn to Jesus. Jesus speaks to the sea and commands it to be calm! Then he asks: "Why are you fearful? How is it that ye have no faith?"
When life's storms rage around you:
1) Have faith.
2) Turn to Jesus in times of trouble. He will give you peace.
3) Know that everything is under Jesus' control!
