New Every Morning
by John Thomas
We all like things that are fresh and new. (Examples: Newly painted house, freshly washed towels, a crisp dollar bill, a clean house, a haircut, a freshly mowed lawn, flowers...I think you get the point).
The nicest of things will only stay that way for so long, then they become old. The things we once treasured so highly, will eventually become tattered and tom.
No matter how nice things are around us, we will get tired of them. They won't hold our attention forever. The nicest car or house will become common place to us after a while. The fanciest dinner, if eaten every day, will be the last thing we want to taste.
Remember the first time you drove a car how excited you were? Now you hate having to drive all over the universe. Remember that new outfit you had to have? Where is it now? Remember that first dollar you made and how excited you were to get it? Where is it now? What happens to a fresh towel when it is used, wadded up, and thrown in the comer? Doesn't smell so hot now does it? A clean house gets dirty.
A haircut grows out and gets ragged. Needless to say a lawn is constant maintenance. All the things we love here on earth, just get contaminated by the world.
Why can't things remain new and fresh? Why can't we depend on them for more than just a short while? Nothing seems to last any more. They don't build 'em like they used to.
Remember the first time you saw your wife and how beautiful you thought she was? Remember the first time you saw the ocean? Remember the first time you hiked in the mountains and realized that God had made that for you? Remember the first time someone was merciful to you?
Consider this: Lamentations 3:22 - 24 "Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. 23) They are new every morning; Great is thy faithfulness. 24) The lord is my portion says my soul, Therefore I will hope in Him!"
What a blessing...His mercies are new every moming. They never get old. We never get tired of seeing them. They are beautiful every time we look at them. Great is Your faithfulness!
