Strength from Struggle

by Ken Thomas

It is so difficult to understand some of the "pressures" of life we have to endure at times; however the following story illustrates the value of pressure.

A boy once saw a cocoon shaking as the butterfly inside fought to break out to freedom and flight. Motivated by the desire to help, the boy carefully opened the cocoon, and out came a butterfly -- which could not fly. I never flew, because it never developed the strength which comes from struggling against the coccon.

Whenever we are in the "cocoon of life" desiring freedom, we should appreciate the strength that comes from the struggle. "For our light afflication, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more excellent and eternal weight of glory," ( 2 Corinthians 4:17).

"The sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us." Romans 8:18.
