Love Covereth All Sins

by Ken Thomas

"Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins...he that uttereth a slander is a fool. In the multitude of words there wanteth no sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise." ( Proverbs 10:12,18,19). "If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain" ( James 1:26). "How great a matter a little fire kindleth And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity..." James 3:5-6.
I have been disturbed recently by hearing Christians talking very critically of other Christians -- not in their presence, but in their absence. "My brethren, these things ought not to be," James 3:10. Love demands that we go to one who is in sin and tell him his fault "between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother, ( Matthew 18:15). It is not right to assume that "they know better." We have no right to tell others about the fault of a brother or sister in Christ until experience has proven that they will not hear us.
If we refuse to deal with the erring or negligent in love and according to clear Bible teaching, we have no right o be considered as faithful to God ourselves. "Brethren, if a man be overcome in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself lest thou also be tempted," ( Galatians 6:1).
