Satan vs. Christ

The hostility of the evil opponent of the Lord is pictured in the names he wears in scripture. "Satan" has the basic meaning of "adversary", and "devil is the common translation of "diabolos" which means "slanderer" or "accuser". In Revelation 12, Satan is called "the great dragon", "that old serpent", "the deceiver of the whole world, and the "accuser of our brethren."
In contrast, Jesus declared that his disciples would be known for their love for each other ( John 13:35), and Hebrews 13:1 implores, "Let brotherly love continue." Paul warned, "If ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one another," ( Galatians 5:15).
It is sad to see brethren (who sincerely believe they are defending the truth) spending so much effort finding fault and attacking brethren that they end up on Satan's side, guilty of hatred, variance (dissension), and strife. Galatians 5:20-23 teaches that such will prevent an inheritance in the kingdom of God. But there is no law against love, longsuffering, and gentleness!
