Robbing a Child of Life!
by Steve Hale
"A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning, Rachel, weeping for her children, Refusing to be comforted, Because they are no more" ( Matthew 2:18; Jeremiah 31:15, NKJV).
Buried in obscurity, page 11A of the Thursday, October 9, 1997 edition of The Tennessean is the following headline: "House again votes for abortion limit, Clinton expected to veto partial-birth bill." This session's House has voted overwhelming, 296-132, to ban late-term abortions. The news item continues: "With 290 House votes needed to override a veto, the 296-132 House vote and incated enough strength."
The problem is in the Senate, where the bill passed 64-36. Three more votes are needed to override an expected veto from the President. Again, from The Tennessean article: "White House spokeswoman Julia Green said the President's position remains the same as it was when he vetoed a similar bill last year. Clinton has ten days after getting the bill to sign it or veto it."
The bill calls for a two year imprisonment of all doctors who perform the partial birth abortion procedure in cases where the mother's life is not in jeopardy. The procedure is grotesque, as The Tennessean article itself explains: "The procedure involves partially extracting a explains: "The procedure involves partially extracting a fetus; leg first, through thepirth canal, then puncturing, I draining, and collapsing the skull to pull it through." This makes Freddy Kruegar and Charles Manson look humane!
The President bases his objection that the only exception allowed in the bill is when the woman's life is in danger.
"He and abortion rights groups have called for an exception to allow the procedure when continuing a pregnancy would jeopardize a woman's health" (The Tennessean).
This, of course, gives a plethora of open-ended excuses to continue the procedure. During heated and gripping debate, those supporting the ban referred to the .j procedure as "inhumane," "gruesome," and unnecessary.
Rep. Charles Canady of Florida called it "infanticide." Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California responded: "This legislation destroys a family's right to face a devastating deCision that is more appropriately made by women." She went on to say it robs a woman of a decision that is rightly hers.
With all due respect, Rep. Pelosi, how about the child's rights? It robs a child of the fundamental right to life!
Brothers and sisters, this is beyond politics and party affiliation. This is an abomination before God...it is the grotesque execution of innocent and precious human life in the guise of women's rights. No one should have the right to brutally terminate a baby like this. The Latin word for fetus means "little one." Mr. President, please don't veto a bill that will save multitudes of "little ones."
