Soul-Winning
by Steve Hale
"And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also" ( 2 Timothy 2:2, NKJV).
Soul-winning is at the very heart of the process of going on to maturity in the Christian life! Liberal theology has redefmed evangelism as mere social refoTIn. But, the Bible describes it as preaching Jesus Christ! The evangelist is the messenger with good news, preaching the gospel of Christ.
If you are not making a contribution to soul-winning, you are not fulfilling the mission Jesus gave to His church! Our Lord's command is to go and teach! The apostles and the early church were so committed to their early mission that the message went throughout the world in the first century ( Mark 16:15-16; Colossians 1:6,23). This process was not to end with the apostles ( Matthew 28:20; Romans 7:4), but carried forth by us today!
Programs for soul-winning are good. There are a number of wonderful programs and methodS in our brotherhood: Open Bible: Study, Fishers of Men, Jule Miller Filmstrips, the 1 John Method, and Soul Searching Questions are just some of these. Before soul-winning can be organized into a program, it first must become a passion!
If a loved one needs a kidney, we would be willing to sacrifice. If a loved one was hungry, we would stepin and provide a hot meal. If a loved one was downtrodden, we would take them in. Such sacrifices are motivated by love. This same love, should motivate us to be passionate about soul-winning. When is the last time you brought someone to Christ?
