Goodbye from Steve

by Steve Hale

"So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified." (Acts 20:32, NKJV).

The apostle Paul was bidding farewell to his beloved friends and brother, the elders of the church at Ephesus (Acts 20:17-38). It is interesting that Paul: (1) warned them against false teachers ( Acts 20:28-30); (2) commended them to the word of God (Acts 20:32); (3) encouraged them to reach out to the weak and to the poor.

As Cindy, Beth, Jason, Kimberly, and I prepare to leave, we could not make better recommendations, Study the scriptures, and accept only those things which are biblical. Keep on helping one another, and win souls to the Lord. Finally, reach out to those who are hurting and poor.

This is a wonderful congregation, and we love you. As the Ephesian elders at Miletus loved Paul, and sorrowed for him (Acts 20:38), we are sorrowful to be leaving your midst. We will always be prayerful for the Mt. Juliet church. Thank you for 11 wonderful years.

Lord willing, we're moving to Doniphan, Missouri. This is a super congregation, where we labored from 1982-1986. They have graciously asked us to come back a number of times through the years, and we are excited about going back.

Doniphan was named after General Alexander W. Doniphan, who was a Civil War hero and leader in the Restoration Movement. The church has been strong there for many years, and we believe the potential for growth is good. Please pray for us in this new work.
