Building Strong Relationships
Mr. Webster defines the word, "relationship," as the state or character of being related or connected. It is a word that shows the kinship between two things or persons.
Of course, the most desired relationship is a proper relationship with the Lord our God. Jesus said: "And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength..." ( Mark 12:30). When we have this kind of love for God, all of our other relationships will be in proper unison. We will love our neighbor as ourselves. Our marriage will be indestructible. Our church family will be edified. Our homes will be a place where the love for God and others will bring peace and harmony.
But how do we build this kind of relationship? Christ said: "If you love Me, keep My commandments " ( John 14:15). We must obey God to have a proper relationship with Him. This means if I am not a Christian; I will become one by obeying His plan of salvation. I will then become an active member in His kingdom. Studying and praying every day will become my habit and custom. I will be concerned for lost souls. I will want to help those in need. I will want to be at every worship assembly. I will use those talents that God has given me to serve Him and others. And if I have fallen away, I will repent and then go about doing those first works just described.
Satan will use all his devices exploiting my weaknesses from laziness to a lack of self-control to destroy my relationship with God. But I will not let him win. "For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things to come, nor height nor depth, not any other created thing, shall be able to separate (Me) us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord" ( Romans 10:38-39).
