Have You Given God a Gift from Your Lips?

by David Shannon

David Shannon

For several years the challenge has been issued to write down at least 100 things for which you are grateful. Some have listed a person in their family and then ten things about them for which they are grateful. Then they might list the church and ten more things, etc. Some list several people, then several places, and then things. Some list ten blessings they have seen each day for 10 days. Isn't it wonderful that when we follow Christ's example of gratitude, "Father, I thank You that You have heard Me" our love for God grows, aiding us in our endeavor to be humble ( John 11:41). We cannot be faithful to God while failing to show gratitude. "Pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1Thess 5:17-18). Allow me to mention a few things, not necessarily comprehensive, of which I am grateful.
I am thankful for my 4th grade teacher Mrs. Loveless, my childhood horse Misty, for swimming holes, hide and seek in the barn and Sunday afternoons. I am thankful for in-laws, for a second family, for friends who are as close as family, for family. I am thankful for the lessons learned and hopefully the humility gained from a difficult break up when in college, for a state competition loss, for sometimes feeling left out. I am thankful for the view on the top of a 4 O'clock run, the feeling of looking back over a fresh cut lawn and polished shoes. I am thankful for Phil's ability to make me laugh, for Sunday hugs, little high fives, a kiss from my daughters and momma's love. I am thankful for Mt Juliet, the town and congregation, the schools, the library, restaurants, Charlie Daniel Park and the new exit. I am thankful for God's love and forgiveness. I am thankful for Tracie's beauty inside and out, Colton's musical ability, Lacie's leadership ability and Emilie's creativity. I am thankful for people who have been far better to me than I deserved in Brushy, Henderson, Riverhead, NY, Gadsden, AL, and Mt Juliet. And sweet tea. What about you?

Therefore by Him
let us continually
offer the sacrifice
of praise
to God, that is,
the fruit of our
lips,
giving thanks to
His name.
Hebrews 13:15
