What the Bible Teaches about One of the Most Beautiful Topics in the Scriptures--GIVING!

by David Shannon

In the following passages the questions in the parenthesis will be from man and the answers will be from God underlined for emphasis sake.

I Corinthians 16:1 ¶ (What is the topic under discussion?) Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also:
2 (When should one give) On the first day of the week (Who should give?) let each one of you lay something aside, (What should the gift be based upon?) storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come.

II Corinthians 9:6 ¶ But this I say: (What is the result of giving?) He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
7 So let (Who should give?) each one give (Should the amount of the gift be habitual, sporadic, or planned?) as he purposes in his heart, (What should the attitude of the giver be?) not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.
8 (Who is able to give us all we need?) And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an (Why would God give us abundance?) abundance for every good work.

Summary: Every Christian should stop each week to count how much God has prospered them that week and gladly give back their planned gift to the Lord on Sunday. God will generously give to those who generously use His blessings to do good works! God promises this!
