Public Immodesty
by Bud Lambert
Public immodesty is accelerating the breakdown of morals in our society and is also desensitizing the minds of Christians to accept what God has declared to be sinful. The Bible is clear about clothing.
Revelation 16:15: Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
1 Timothy 2:9-10: In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; but (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
Sinful women are pictured in the Bible wearing gay, gaudy clothing that draws attention to their bodies and that reveals their sinful motives. Godly men are warned to avoid such women ( Proverbs 5; Revelation 18).
Luke 8:27 reveals the significance of nudity as an indicator of whether God or Satan is controlling a person's life. The demonic of Gadara who dwelt among the tombs, had an unclean spirit, and "ware no clothes." After the evil spirit was cast out of him, and he came to know the Lord, he was found "sitting...clothed, and in his right mind." Immodesty and nudity are most prevalent where Satan is the most active.
Christians are commanded to avoid arousing the evil desires of the flesh ( Colossians 3:5, 6; 1 Peter 1:13-15; 1 Peter 2:11; 1 Peter 4:1-5; Titus 2:11-14; Romans 13:14). Men and women who dress in such a way that draws attention to their bodies and arouses the illicit sexual desire in others are sinning. Likewise, men and women who choose to go to places where others are dressed in ways that arouses their illicit sexual desire are sinning.
As one person has wisely stated, "If it ain't for sale, why advertise it,' and "If we want men to see the image of God in our faces, we will need to keep our bodies clothed."
