Trust in the Lord
by Albert England

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths" Proverbs. 3:5-6. One of the biggest challenges that Christians have is that of trust or faith. To me it is one of the greatest challenges we face in leading others to the Lord. If a person has a strong trust or faith in the Lord, he will live a devoted Christian life.
The writer of Proverbs says that we should have complete trust in the Lord - with all of our heart. He also stated that we are not to follow our own ways or lean on our own understanding. "It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps" Jerimiah 10:23. Knowing the Lord gives meaning to life - "and He shall direct your paths."
The life of Abraham illustrates great trust in God. First he was called to leave his homeland and go to another land that God would show him. A threefold promise was given to him: God would make him a great nation, He would make his name great, and through him all the earth would be blessed. Great trust was required in order for Abraham to obey God.
In Genesis the twenty-second chapter the great trust that Abraham had in the Lord is seen. He was instructed to go and offer his son, Isaac as a burnt offering. Abraham followed the instruction of the Lord; he went; he prepared the wood on the altar; he bound his son Isaac and placed him on the altar; he stretched out his arm with the knife to slay his son. Then the angel of the Lord appeared to Abraham and told him not to kill his son - "for I know that you fear (trust) God." What great trust or faith! Abraham's trust is further seen in Hebrews 11:17-19. Abraham "concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead…." We need to have this strong trust in God. The book of Genesis has many other examples of Abraham's trust in God.
We need to trust in the Lord and acknowledge Him in all our ways. "Those who know Your name will put their trust in You." Psalm 9:10. "Blessed is the man that trusts in the Lord." Jeremiah 18:7.
