Jesus Prayed for Me

by Albert England

Albert England

We take comfort and assurance knowing someone is praying for us or has prayed for us. Knowing that Jesus prayed for us should give us even greater comfort. Shortly before Jesus was crucified, He prayed for His apostles, but He also prayed for you and me. The Lord's Prayer is recorded in John 17. It contains three parts: Jesus prayed for Himself in the first verse, "Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You." Jesus prayed for His apostles. Then in John 17:20 Jesus said, "I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word." Jesus prayed for those who would or will believe in Him. That includes you and me. Knowing we have a Savior who gave Himself as a sacrifice to God for our redemption and that He also prayed for each of us should be a great joy and inspiration to all. Christ not only prayed for His children before His crucifixion; He also blessed us after His crucifixion and before His ascension to the Father. In John 20: 25, Thomas said: "Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe." In verses 27, Jesus told Thomas to look and touch His hands and side and "Do not be unbelieving, but believing." Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said to him, "Thomas because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." John 20:28, 29 Jesus pronounced a blessing on those who have not seen Him in the flesh yet believe in Him. What a comfort and assurance to realize that Jesus not only purchased our pardon on the cross, but also prayed to His Father on our behalf and blessed us. Thank God for such a thoughtful and loving Savior.
