What A Fellowship, What A Joy Divine...
by Pat Hackney

In the adult auditorium class we have recently begun a study of Paul's epistle note to the Christians at Philippi for their continued support in his hour of need. He tells them that he always makes mention of them in every prayer to God with all joy for their fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now ( Philippians 1:4-5).
When we read this passage we are reminded of the opening verse of an old hymn which begins with the words: "What a fellowship, what a joy divine..." We see that true Christian fellowship is much more than just sharing a common meal or an activity together. It is a fellowship of love, faith, prayer, and thanksgiving. It is a group of people who truly care about each other and who are willing to see to the needs of each other. Burton Coffman, a Christian writer, has said: "fellowship is a side by side love of people who are on their way to heaven. They contribute to promote the gospel and sacrifice in their struggle against a common foe. And yet, they share in a Christian joy that is a glorious emotion which is not only eternal, but sacred, pure and holy."
It is this kind of fellowship and this kind of joy that we share at Mt. Juliet and may that always be the case.
