Mary Thomas Dennis: An Inspiration
by Phil Waggoner

I would just like to salute my great-aunt Mary Thomas Dennis. She turned 100 years old Saturday. Mary Tom has done many great things in her life. One of the most impressive to me is that she still attends worship services three times a week, still helps with Disaster Relief, and is active in many great works. She and my grandparents paid for my college education, along with my 11 cousins and brothers and sisters. She spoke in chapel in the fall and talked about how times had changed since she graduated in 1924. I was excited to know that she is the oldest living alumnus. Though her eyesight is failing, her mind is as sharp as ever. She can tell someone about her first Sunday School teacher when she was a child, growing up in Sharon, Tennessee, traveling in Europe while in college and hearing Adolf Hitler speak on his front steps, and many other things. Im thankful to have Mary Tom as part of my life! She's on her way to one hundred and one!
