Cinderella Stories of the Bible

by Dustin Perkins

Here are a few examples found in the Bible of God using extraordinary people for Him and His cause:
1. God used Gideon, who was the weakest member of a poor family, to defeat the Midianite army with a highly inferior force.
2. God used David, a young shepherd boy with a simple slingshot, to defeat a giant Philistine warrior.
3. God used Paul, a one-time persecutor of first century Christians, and made him one of the key components of growth in the first century church.
We are not perfect, but don't worry, we are in good company: For instance, Moses stuttered, Davids armor didnt fit, David committed adultery, Abraham was too old, Lazarus was dead, Jonah ran from God, John the Baptist was a loudmouth, the prodigal son was wasteful, Noah was a drunk, Moses had a short fuse, and so did Peter; as well as lots of other folks.
The underdog principle is something that existed even during Bible times. God used old men, the youngest sons, cowards, daydreamers, shepherds, fisherman, tax collectors, wanderers, kings, women, harlots, educated and uneducated people, physicians, zealots or terrorists, and such-like. God has a plan for our lives and how He will use us in His service. Sometimes even though we think we are not the proper candidate, God can still use us.
God has given us so many talents and abilities that we need to take every opportunity to use them to His glory. No matter where we are in our lives God can use us, and we need to make sure our will is the same as Gods will.
A great verse for these thoughts is Ephesians 3:20: Now to him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.
