Worship

A definition of worship is given in a footnote in the ASV on Matthew 2:2: The Greek word (pros kun eu) denotes an act of reverence paid...to the worship: Reverence, true and genuine respect and appreciation to and for God in the heart, is the foundation of and to worship. Worship is being focused on God and not on what makes us feel good. True understanding of God and salvation through Christ prompts Christians to express glorification to our Creator. We bow in true worship to God alone. There is no other object of worship. I am afraid that in the religious world there is a trend to focus more on self and less on the Savior.

The Bible reveals the true guidelines to worship: God is a Spirit; and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24. In Acts the seventeenth chapter Paul saw a city filled with idolatry and he told

them their worship was in ignorance, not knowing God. Paul then proceeded to teach them who God is and reminds them that the entire world will stand before Christ and be judged. As Christians, who will one day face judgment, our worship must meet Gods standard.

Worship must be in spirit. Christ makes worship an attitude of the heart. Christians should have a joyful longing to commune in worship to God from the depths of the inward man.

Worship is to be in truth. Truth is that which is in harmony with the nature and will of God. Jesus said Thy word is truth. John 17:17. God reveals the true attitude and activities in worship. May we have hearts that show greater respect, genuine appreciation, and true reverence to God in worship.
