Shame on that Coach!
Godly Leadership - Total Involvement
The Lord wants all Servingby David Shannon
Have you read about the coach in North Union Township out of Pittsburgh who is accused of paying a player $25 dollars? You may be surprised to learn the player was on a T-ball team. When you hear why he was paid you will probably be even more surprised. The league in which Mark Downs, Jr. coaches requires every player to play at least three innings. He is accused of paying a player $25 to hit a disabled boy in the head during warm-up so he would be unable to play during the game! A state trooper explained ,The coach was very competitive. He wanted to win. To some, winning is everything. To some, winning is more important than the team or the individuals who make up the team.
Every person involved in the work of the church is much more important than picking out the top 20% of members and asking them to do everything. In so doing we are saying to the rest we don't want you to playyou weaken our team. Yet, think how many churches operate by this strategyeven if unintentionally. Read carefully 1 Corinthians 12 and think about how important every member of the Lords body is to Him. Every member of the body not only has a place, but a service to render to the rest of the body. Most churches would never pay members not to workbut many do not encourage all to serve. And the truth is that we are the strongest team when all do their part instead of trying to selectively overwork an all-star team. Lets remember at MJ
