The Cross

by John Thomas

With the year 2000 around the corner, I'm sure it won't be long
before some great philosopher predicts the end of the world with the "coming of a new age." Men have always looked for "Signs" and "Miracles."
We are taught not to worry about these signs and wonders. Matthew 24:42 "Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming." Matthew 24:44 "therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect." Matthew 16:4 "A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. And He left them and departed. "
What then should we look for? The answer has always been and will always be, THE CROSS!
Matthew 16 starting at v. 21, Jesus tells his disciples that it is time for Him to go to Jerusalem, suffer, die, and be raised the third day.
Matthew 16:24-28 "Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and for now Me. For whoever desires to save his life win lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and
loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
For the Son of Man win come in the glory of His Father with His angels,
and then He will reward each according to his works. Assuredly, I will say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom".
Watch the cross and the gifts you lay before it in your daily offerings to Christ. Make sure that your gift is the best you have and no matter how much you sacrifice to give it, it pales in comparison to THE CROSS!
