Involvement

by Tony Huddleston

In one of President John F. Kennedy's famous speeches, he said "Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country." Kennedy realized that many people had the wrong attitude about their country and its government.

Do we sometimes have the same wrong attitude about the church? Quite often we hear statements like "I didn't get anything out of worship Sunday" or "I wish they had more programs for teenagers, or young marrieds, or seniors, etc."
A better question is "What can I do for the Lord?" The church was established on the day of Pentecost with a mission to save the lost. ( Acts 2:47). The church was never intended to be an entertainment center, a social club, or a support group. The great sacrifice that Christ made for us on the cross should motivate us to become active in his kingdom, the church.
In Paul's first letter to the Corinthians, he shows how every member of the church is important.
"For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ" ( 1 Corinthians 12:12). "Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular" ( 1 Corinthians 12:27).
So we see that each Christian has a function in the body of Christ. It is therefore imperative that we find ways to be involved. The church in Laodicea had become lukewarm (comfortable, satisfied, and complacent), and Christ rebuked them. ( Revelation 3:14-19)
I urge each of us to be active and not passive in the Lord's church. The Lord wants participants, not spectators. We all have unique talents that the Lord expects us to use. Resolve today to become totally involved in the work of the Lord here at Mount Juliet, and receive His bountiful blessings.
