2012 God's Family

The Revival Continues! Sunday morning in late service KJ Bostian came forward to be baptized. He is a fine young man who is the son of Roger and Meredith. He has grown up here at MJ and also has been studying God's will about salvation for a few weeks now with Philip. David Minton baptized him as we, the Father, and angels in Heaven rejoiced! Also, we prayed for Tom Gabrell and David Stanfield as they too came forward. Tom asked for forgiveness and prayers while David asked for prayers to find his next step in how to better serve God as he matures. How blessed we are to have a church family and God who we can bring our hearts to when broken or concerned!

A Retreat that Turned into Revival! This past weekend our junior and seniors in high school had a retreat in Gatlinburg. While there, Taylor Gillespie, Jonathan Walker, Kelli Lannom, Debbie Guerrier, Kristen Williams, Peyton Brooks, and Ashley McIndoo all asked for prayers and forgiveness. During Saturday evening's session together these young people were convicted and recommitted their life to God. It is beautiful to see God at work in humble hearts. Let us honor their request to pray for them. Taylor, Jonathan, Kelli, Debbie, Kristen, Peyton and Ashley, we love you and are so thankful for you! Let's all continue to pray for all those mentioned above. Why not stop right now and say a prayer for them?

A Study of Angels: For the last two Sunday evenings we have studied the beautiful topic of angels. After many have offered great discussion and asked questions about various scripture references I have decided to print several copies of the powerpoint slides of the sermon. They will be placed in the bin where the CD and DVD request folder is which is located on the small table next to "Information Central." What a blessing it is to seek God's knowledge on every topic!

Family Tree Training Classes: Several have enjoyed learning more about Family Tree over the past few weeks. This is a valuable tool which is being initiated into our work here at MJ. This tool will help us have an online directory as well as keep class roles, seek involvement, and improve communications. If you want to learn more about this wonderful tool, sign up for the training class on May 20th from 4-6 in Room 200 A/B. The sign-up sheet is at Information Central. See John Michael for more information.

A Weekend of Blessings! Friday our Tuesday-Thursday School enjoyed a wonderful end of the year program and graduation! Next week we will have a special issue of the bulletin which will include a picture of these graduates! Thanks to Tina Edwards and all the ladies who lead this great ministry. On Saturday we had the wonderful opportunity to serve single mothers in our community by helping them maintain their car. Read more on page two about it! To God be the Glory!

2012 Single Mom's Car Care Clinic

God's love was revealed in a practical way this past Mother's Day weekend! Our annual car care clinic for single moms serviced 21 mothers! It was an incredible day full of hard work, love, and service. Many of the cars that came in received an oil change/inspection, car wash, interior detail, and even minor upholstery/dent and headlight repair. It was a gift from God to see each mom's smiling face as it came through the doorway, but it was an even bigger gift to watch as many performed a double-take once their car rolled off the work line! Major thanks goes out to Bruce Conder of Conder's Automotive - He has donated the use of his shop to the car clinic for years now. Also, many of our own members showed up to work in the mechanic shop, car wash station, vacuum station, and cosmetic repair station (I'm too afraid to mention names for fear of leaving one of our helpers out!). Beyond the people working on the cars, we had members helping the moms check-in, writing follow-up cards, painting nails, giving out snacks, watching children, and even helping with financial advice! It was so neat to watch as servants from different walks and with different skills united in kingdom work. It was a blessing to watch people serve each other all for God's glory! God is good and alive in Mt. Juliet!

Mankind's Capacity to...
by Tim Martin

From June 1942-February 1943, one of the bloodiest battles in history occurred for possession of a city on the River Volga in the Soviet Union. The name of that city was Stalingrad. Accurate casualty estimates are difficult to determine because of the sheer loss of life. In just over 6 months, experts say an estimated 2,000,000 soldiers and civilians were killed or wounded. Soviet losses of life are estimated at over 450,000. Putting that in perspective, the United States lost just shy of 420,000 soldiers during ALL of World War II. The eventual Soviet victory at Stalingrad was a turning point in the war on the Eastern Front. Possibly the bloodiest battle in the bloodiest war ever waged. Estimates are that 60-70 million people, soldiers and civilians, were killed during WWII. Over 6,000,000 can be attributed to the depraved monsters in places called Dachau, Buchenwald, Treblinka, and Auschwitz.
Mankind's capacity for destruction and evil appears endless. Throughout our history, it seems that we have found it much easier to kill, destroy, and wound than to build up, strengthen, or impart hope and love. There is a high price to pay when the times come for people to go to war with one another. Many times, evil must be defeated by the forces of good and casualties will occur on both sides. Defending the innocent or freeing them from oppression costs life and limb.
What about our capacity to show God's love? What is the measure of our willingness to comfort the hurting, clothe the naked, and give water to those who thirst? How industrious are we in erecting shelter for the homeless or providing aid to the sick? Jesus taught that those who do not fulfill these duties to their fellow-man neglect Christ and God and themselves and will not inherit heaven (Matt. 25:31-46). How deep is the well of our souls when we draw out waters of forgiveness, loving-kindness, and peace? If we cannot forgive or show mercy, we cannot expect it (Matt. 5:7; 6:14, 15). If we are to be sons of God, we must establish peace (Matt. 5:9).
We are made in the image of the Lord God. We have a soul created by an entity of pure and incomprehensible love. I John 4:7-13 says that God is love and that His love was manifested in Jesus Christ by His sacrifice for our sins. If we are the Body of Christ, should not God's love be manifested in us? Verses 12 & 13 say that if we love one another, God's love abides in us and us in Him. Quite simply it is either: know love, know God or No love, no God.
