2012 God's Family
MJ Folks using the opportunities God places before them. We heard last week that Ben Coles was asked to preach at a small church in the Cookeville area. He preached a great lesson according to Cecily Walton his fiancé. This senior at Tennessee Tech continues to be a blessing to the Lord's kingdom. While at TTU he has been a solid part of the Christian Student Center. Thanks for your example Ben! Others doing good are our Young Ladies and Young Soldiers Serving Christ. They have started working on their lessons, songs, etc. It is so exciting to see young men and young women developing the gifts God has given them. Speaking of using the gifts God has given, that is what this coming Sunday is all about.
Involvement Sunday is not a time to place an emphasis on ministries, although the untrained eye would see it that way. It is a day to place the emphasis on us, the Lord's servants. We want to give everyone an opportunity to serve. Come as early as 7:30 Sunday morning to talk with deacons. You can also stay after services or come as early as 5:30 in the evening. We want to help every member be an active servant for the Lord.
The Revival Continues! Matt Kirk was baptized into Christ last Wednesday evening by Brandon Adcock. We rejoiced with God upon witnessing this new start for Matt. Sunday morning Don Collin's had Tim Martin read a powerful statement about his grief over the passing of his sister and an evaluation of his own need for comfort, strength, and forgiveness. Don is a great, godly man and deacon. He has a virtuous wife and they have raised two sons who have blessed this church. Will you stop now and say a prayer for Matt Kirk and Don Collins? There is nothing more important than souls and this past week we were encouraged greatly!
Great News from the church plant in Owenton, Kentucky. Bill and Laura Dayton sent word; "just wanted you to know that Judy Cobb was baptized into Christ last Friday....that is 9 converted in 7 months...thanks be to God. Will be at Mt Juliet Feb. 29th...a Wednesday evening. Laura and I are going to spend the night with the Kibbes." This past year during our stateside mission trip we worshiped with them in their new building. It was the first time they had worshiped in it. What a joy it was to be there and now to hear that souls are continuing to be reached.
Stateside Mission Trip 2012 will be announced soon! Mike Kibbe has been taking trips and doing research. Will you join in this work? Just another way to serve Him!

Body Building

by Tim Martin

Cain responds to God's question regarding the whereabouts of his brother Abel with a lie ("I do not know") and with a rude question ( Genesis 4:9). This retort is one of the most well-known quotations in the Hebrew Scriptures: "Am I my brother's keeper?" The word translated here as keeper means to keep, guard, observe, give heed, protect, and attend to. God does not give an immediate answer to Cain's inquiry. He instead spends the remainder of the Bible providing an affirmative response. We are our brother's guard, his watchmen, his protector, and the attender of his needs. It is what Christ says is the second greatest command ( Matthew 22:39), and the first that we fulfill in our relationship with people. To achieve these roles, we must realize that we are all shepherds in some way to other people. Shepherding is defined as tending, guarding, and watching over a flock. Throughout the Bible, we see people fulfilling this role: prophets, kings, judges, elders (Old and New Testament), deacons, preachers, teachers, fathers, mothers, grandparents, spouses, mentors, leaders, apostles and certainly the foremost example of tending, guarding, and watching over: our Lord Jesus Christ.

Beginning on February 19th, our adult Bible classes will begin a study focusing on shepherding. The study marks the beginning of a new program here at Mt. Juliet. It is a program which focuses on how each of us can fulfill the role of shepherding those we are responsible for. We will study the perfect examples of shepherding by examining how God and Jesus act as Shepherds. We will be studying how the eldership is responsible for watching over the congregation and how the sheep need to respond. The study will additionally focus on other Biblical leadership roles such as: deacons, preachers, teachers, mentors, husbands, parents and grandparents.

The purpose of the program is two-fold: To allow the elders to know more of the flock more closely and teaching us to shepherd with the gifts and opportunities God has given us. The program will revolve around our adult Bible classes. There will be an elder charged with overseeing each Bible class. Our classes will have leadership roles within the class designed to promote unity and fellowship within that class. Each class will grow closer together as a family through fellowship, activities, service, focused and applicable Bible study, communication, and mentoring. Curriculum for in-class and in-home study will be provided to each adult student.

You will be learning a great deal more about the purpose and structure of this program in the first two weeks of the study. Let's get excited about how we will grow more as God's family because we are treating each other like family.

From a Little Boy's Pocket God Fed...
by David Shannon

Benjamin Caillouet has been nurtured by his parents to care for others. He has seen their example and heard their prayers. So at the time Nick and Amy Fowler needed funds to finish the facility for outreach and Bible study in Belem, Benjamin gave. This facility is a crucial step in their work, but it comes with expense. Benjamin Caillouet walked up to Nick and handed him a ziplock bag containing a quarter, a dime, and fifteen pennies. Also was the sacrificial gift of Lightning McQueen stickers. This generous gift would become seed multiplying itself over 16,000 times.
The following Sunday evening Nick Fowler read about the power of God to multiply children's gifts, "One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Him, There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?... in number about five thousand. And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them... as much as they wanted. They were filled... and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten ( John 6:8-13)." Nicked prayed that God would multiply Benjamin's gift to $4,000. God's people began to do God's work. Emma and Emerson Haley came up and gave Nick part of their allowance. Adam and Luke Partin rolled all the money in their piggy banks and delivered it to Nick and Amy at the Pickler's house. Daniel Hines wrote a note saying he was moved and is considering becoming a missionary. He also included 13 dollars, the money that was in his wallet. The 55 cents and stickers were multiplying at an amazing rate. Some individuals and families made huge sacrifices. The night was amazing. When Nick and Amy walked to their car that night and realized what God had just done through His people they began to pray. Upon their return to Belem, Nick sat down with his partner, Brian, and told Him what God had done, Brian immediately began praying. After praying, he immediately called Melissa, his wife, to share the great news of God's provisions.
God is just as powerful today as He was when he fed 5,000 beginning with a little boys sacrifice. He gave us a glimpse of it through Benjamin's sacrifice becoming over $8,000 in order for Brazilians to be fed God's word. The Fowlers were so excited and appreciative that Nick Skyped us Sunday night to say thank you. To God be The Glory!
And by the way, Happy Birthday Benjamin (2/8)!

The World Is Not Our Home

by Tony Huddleston

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him" ( 1 John 2:15. (KJV)

We are born in the world. We live in the world. We work and play in the world. It is very easy to believe the world is everything. Satan would have us all believe this lie. But God has shown us a better, more abundant life if we will only embrace it.
"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly" ( John 10:10).

In 1 John 2:16, John describes just what it means to love the world. He did not mean we should become recluses and withdraw ourselves from life. Jesus himself lived in the world and walked and talked with many people, both sinners and righteous. But to love the world is to engage in those sins which will take us away from God, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.

It is important for us to evaluate our own lives from time to time to be certain we are not falling into this trap. For example, we should ask ourselves: Would I rather attend worship services or play a round of golf? Do I spend most of my time trying to gain money or things? Are my greatest goals in life related to pleasure or fortune?

Paul made a sad statement concerning one of his fellow missionaries. "For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; ...". Demas had once been a faithful Christian, but the love of the world entrapped him. None of us are immune from this type of temptation.

I pray we all focus more on those things which are lasting, and not the transient things of the world. If we're living for God, we must always remember, "This world is not my home". We are only here for a little while to prepare for a wonderful eternity in heaven together. May we all keep our eyes on the eternal bliss which awaits God's children there.
