2012 God's FamilyMJ Folks using the opportunities God places before them. We heard last week that Ben Coles was asked to preach at a small church in the Cookeville area. He preached a great lesson according to Cecily Walton his fiancé. This senior at Tennessee Tech continues to be a blessing to the Lord's kingdom. While at TTU he has been a solid part of the Christian Student Center. Thanks for your example Ben! Others doing good are our Young Ladies and Young Soldiers Serving Christ. They have started working on their lessons, songs, etc. It is so exciting to see young men and young women developing the gifts God has given them. Speaking of using the gifts God has given, that is what this coming Sunday is all about.
CALLING ALL CHURCH MEMBERS! You are needed at the Ministry Fair SUNDAY EVENING *We ask that all families make plans to 1 Peter 4:10 Body Buildingby Tim Martin Cain responds to God's question regarding the whereabouts of his brother Abel with a lie ("I do not know") and with a rude question ( Genesis 4:9). This retort is one of the most well-known quotations in the Hebrew Scriptures: "Am I my brother's keeper?" The word translated here as keeper means to keep, guard, observe, give heed, protect, and attend to. God does not give an immediate answer to Cain's inquiry. He instead spends the remainder of the Bible providing an affirmative response. We are our brother's guard, his watchmen, his protector, and the attender of his needs. It is what Christ says is the second greatest command ( Matthew 22:39), and the first that we fulfill in our relationship with people. To achieve these roles, we must realize that we are all shepherds in some way to other people. Shepherding is defined as tending, guarding, and watching over a flock. Throughout the Bible, we see people fulfilling this role: prophets, kings, judges, elders (Old and New Testament), deacons, preachers, teachers, fathers, mothers, grandparents, spouses, mentors, leaders, apostles and certainly the foremost example of tending, guarding, and watching over: our Lord Jesus Christ. Beginning on February 19th, our adult Bible classes will begin a study focusing on shepherding. The study marks the beginning of a new program here at Mt. Juliet. It is a program which focuses on how each of us can fulfill the role of shepherding those we are responsible for. We will study the perfect examples of shepherding by examining how God and Jesus act as Shepherds. We will be studying how the eldership is responsible for watching over the congregation and how the sheep need to respond. The study will additionally focus on other Biblical leadership roles such as: deacons, preachers, teachers, mentors, husbands, parents and grandparents. The purpose of the program is two-fold: To allow the elders to know more of the flock more closely and teaching us to shepherd with the gifts and opportunities God has given us. The program will revolve around our adult Bible classes. There will be an elder charged with overseeing each Bible class. Our classes will have leadership roles within the class designed to promote unity and fellowship within that class. Each class will grow closer together as a family through fellowship, activities, service, focused and applicable Bible study, communication, and mentoring. Curriculum for in-class and in-home study will be provided to each adult student. You will be learning a great deal more about the purpose and structure of this program in the first two weeks of the study. Let's get excited about how we will grow more as God's family because we are treating each other like family.
