Marriage: God's DefinitionGenesis 1:18-25 by Tony Huddleston
Im continually amazed and distressed by the unrelenting attacks by many on the divine institution of marriage. Some seek to redefine marriage to include homosexual relationships. Others want to secularize it and make it just an agreement between two people sanctioned by the government.
As Christians, however, we need to examine what God has to say about marriage. When God created man, initially there was just one person, Adam. However, God was not through with His creation. He knew it was not good for man to be alone, so He created the woman Eve from Adams rib. This first marriage was God-ordained and the divine pattern for every age.
And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made He a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. Genesis 1: 21-24
The divine pattern for marriage is one man and one woman for life, with God at its center. The homosexual community desires that their sinful lifestyle be called marriage. Some well meaning people even propose such couples be allowed to adopt children. Such relationships are not families, but perversions, which God strictly condemns in the scriptures. ( Romans 1:26-27 and other passages).
A Christian marriage and family is a true blessing from God, and other than the church, there is no greater institution on earth. I thank God for the many wonderful homes represented here at Mt. Juliet, and I pray for all our marriages and homes to be strengthened in the Lord.
