Superman Pancakes

by David Fleming

(This story as related by daughter Lisa of her conversation with her son Josh.)
"What do you want for breakfast Josh?"
"Barney pancakes!!"
"What are Barney pancakes?"
"You know, Mommy, purple pancakes!!"
(After some thought) "But we don't have any blueberries."
"Then I want Superman pancakes!!"
(Confused mother) "What are Supennan pancakes??"
"Red pancakes, Mommy!! Superman pancakes are red!"

Well, with some of a mother's ingenuity and red food color, Josh got his red (ugh) Superman pancakes. This makes me marvel not only at the length, depth, and width of the imagination of a two-year old (almost three), but how fast the desperate mind of a mother will work to satisfy her child..
The Bible has many stories of.mothers who were able to accomplish many things for or through their children or being creative in times of necessity. Remember Naomi work and advising Ruth (daughter-in-law) for both their well being? Hannah through prayer asking for a son and dedicating him (Samuel) to the Lord and being blessed with many children? Or even the harlot in the story of Solomon's wisdom, willing to give up her son that he might live?
We could cite also, examples of mothers whose decisions were against their families, their children, and God's will.
I believe it important to remember what a mother's love and concern can do. We need to encourage all mothers and especially those of the very young; to guide the minds of their children in the path of God. Mothers, you are to your commended; and more so it you are giving your children to the Lord. If we would save our nation, we must first save children.
