Superman Wants His Mommy

by David Fleming

Recently while visiting relatives, I had the opportunity to be in church with my daughter Lisa and and son Josh. Josh is a two-year old with a huge imagination; and for some reason has decided Superman is his hero. Not only that, he is Superman! He now has a Superman cape (thanks to Grandmama), which he wears constantly.
Josh had not slept well Saturday night and was a little fussy by the end of services. After dismissal, as people were socializing, someone tried to take Josh from his mother. It was then I heard the words that changed my view of Superman forever. He hugged his mother's neck tightly and proclaimed loudly, "Superman wants his mommy!"
I had had many visions of Superman in my life but never, never had I ever pictured a scene such as this. Huge, muscle-bound, invincible, Superman saying these words. It just doesn't fit my mind has great difficulty with the concept.
The longer I live, the more I see things like this. Things considered invincible and unchangeable are not. Things of this world are not always "tried and true." This is why we must put our trust In the "Living God" who is invincible and believe in His word which is unchangeable. We must hide our lives in Him to be able to have riches and glory this worlh can never give us a home in Heaven.
I've heard many quotes and catchy phrases, but I think it will be a while before something sticks in my mind like "Superman wants his mommy." Please read Psalm 137 and Psalm 138.
