Child Sacrifices
by Bud Lambert
Worship to the idol, Molech, by the people of God is one of the most detestable scenes in the Bible ( Leviticus 18:21; Leviticus 20:1-5; 1 Kings 11:7; Ezekiel 23:37-39; Jeremiah 7:9-11; 19:4b). As part of the worship to this dumb idol, parents would sacrifice their children. Can you imagine? They would take their little children and throw them into a burning fire, their children screaming and crying, Just to worship a dumb, worldly Image that could offer them nothing.
We say, "How stupid can you get?" We can't believe anyone could do such a terrible thing to their children. But wait!
Could we be doing the same thing? An idol is anything that takes the place of the one, true God. There are many modern day idols: houses, cars, jobs, sports, school, people, T. V., etc. Anytime we put these things before God, we become a modem day Idol worshiper, and we sacrifice our children to an even greater fire than Molech's eternal hell fire.
One church did a study about the problem of losing their young people. Their findings are as follows:
1. When both parents are faithful In worship attendance and are active. . .7% are lost.
2. When only one parent is faithful in worship attendance and is active...26% are lost.
3. When the parents are fairly faithful in worship attendance, but are inactive...46% are lost.
4. When parents attend worship only occasionally...94% are lost.
Are you sacrificing your children to an idol? Let's encourage each other as we all strive to put God first.
