The Holy of Holiesby David Fleming Leviticus 16 talks of the day of atonement which was the 10th day of the 7th month in the Jewish calendar. On that day only the high priest could enter the Holy of Holies to offer the yearly sacrifice for himself, his family, and all of Israel. In order to do this, the High Priest had to follow special mealss, cleanse himself and offer sacrifice in a specific manner. If for example, he entered the Holy of Holies more than once a year, he would die. The temple of God was a special place then and it is a special place today. It is the body of a Christian. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 "Or do yo not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? or you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." The body of a Christian is the temple, and every sin we coinmit is against that temple. As the high priest we must cleanse the temple. Not by a yearly sacrifice like the high priest; but by continually trying to follow God's will and His way seeking forgiveness for our wrongs.April 26, 1998 |
