Why are We Here?
by Tony Huddleston
Philosophers throughout the ages have tried to understand the most basic question of all. Why are we here? For what purpose? How did we get here? Is the answer within ourselves? Is it possible to perform a scientific experiment to obtain the answer?
Many religions and cults have sprung up over the years, each professing to have answers to these fundamental questions. It seems that man inherently knows that there must be more to life than just staying alive.
Only when men turn to the inspired word of God can any definitive answer be found. There are volumes of evidence to prove the truth and validity of the Bible. Once we believe in the word of God, we see that God reveals the true meaning of life within its pages.
1. We are here to serve the living God. "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come be fore his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord He is God: it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves."
( Psalm 100: 1-3)
2. We are here to worship the living God. "But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth." John 4:23-24.
3. There is another life after this one. The Bible teaches us that a beautiful, eternal place awaits those that worship and serve Him, and a terrible place for those who reject Him. That is why we teach the word of God. Heaven is the ultimate goal of all Christians.
"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you." John 4:1-2
Pleasure, riches, entertainment, and all other worldly activities cannot satisfy or give life meaning. Are we living for the Lord, or just staying alive?
