Homosexuality

Is it Biologicial, Environmental or the Response to Failed Relationships?

by David Shannon

In the early 90's America was sold and for the most part bought a lie. Simon LeVay conducted postmortem examinations on the brains of 35 men. The results of this small study was that the brain cells in a specific area of the brain (INAH3) were fewer in number for the homosexual men. The news spread around the globe of a biological "proof' that homosexuals were born that way. LeVay admitted that the autopsies findings were not conclusive. A fellow worker of his, Kenneth Klivington raised the question of which came first, the lower number of cells or homosexuality, proving again that it was not a conclusive study.
A second study that brought much attention through foolish conclusion was the study of identical twins by J. Michael Bailey and Richard Pillard. This study found that among 56 homosexual men, with an identical twin, only 52% of their twins were also gay. This study was presented by many as conclusive evidence that homosexuality was genetic, since these twins had identical genetic make-up. F. LaGard Smith responded, "Am I missing something? If identical twins have identical genetic makeup, then why was the percentage of the second twins not 100 percent? ... the study IS the best evidence yet of. its nonexistence!" But even today folks foolishly use
this study as proof of their "genetic cause" of homosexuality.

Other Relationships!
Elizabeth Moberly in her book, "Homosexuality: A New Christian Ethic" suggests that homosexuality is the result of a poor relationship With the same sex parent. Has she rejected the fact that there are thousands of homosexuals that profess a good relationship with same sex parents?

Summarize With God's Word!

God made us. lf He made some of us to genetically respond to homosexuality to the degree that our genetic make up is sufficient (sufficient - irresistibly
compel) cause - then we must admit that God made us homosexual. Let's ask Him.
"Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; ... nor homosexuals... shall inherit the kingdom of God" ( 1 Corinthians 6:9-10). "Let no one say when he is tempted, 'I am being tempted by God' for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone" ( Isaiah 1: 13).
God identifies homosexuality as sin. He declares that he will not tempt us. Therefore He did not create us to sin. See also Romans 1:21-32; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (Some in Corinth had turned away from homosexuality); and Jude 7.
World's View: Homosexuality is rooted in biology, genetics, or a defIcIency in certain relatIOnships, therefore the practice of homosexuality is simply a response. Therefore the homosexual behavior IS a natural response, not a sinful choice.
God's View: Homosexuality is rooted in the heart ( Mark 7:20-23). There may be influences offered by peers, genetics, sexual violations of an older person, etc. But the practice of homosexuality is the fulfillment of lust (sinful desire) of the heart. Each is responsible for their decision to choose sin.
Illustration: One may have a bucket, water available, rag in the cabinet and a dirty car. But none of these are sufficient (irresistibly compel) causes to wash the car. The compelling force must be one's intent or motive. Homosexual practice IS the intention of the heart-not environment or genetics! Nothing outside of the heart of man will cause him to practice homosexuality. Homosexuality is a heart issue. How do we know that? Because the one who designed us, including our genes, said so!
