Brighten The Corner Where You Are
by David Fleming
The church family at Mt. Juliet is involved in missions in other countries and the states. Sometimes we must look to others to do the work of missions due to financial woes, work, health, or other problems. That is reasonable because after all we can't do everything, right? Even though that last statement may be true; God gave each of us as Christians a mission "Be one, make one!" From where, you may ask, did you make-up that? Well, I do admit it is brief, but let's look at the real scripture. ( Mark 16: 15-16) "And He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned'."
As Christians, we say we believe these verses, and yet we let circumstances limit our participation in "mission" work. Not every one who saw and heard Jesus, the apostles, and the evangelists, became Christians. My point is, if you can - go on a mission trip. If not, know that as Christians we each still have the same mission. Every day, in all we say and do, we should make every effort to be a Christian example. We can help a friend, neighbor, or stranger in need. We can teach by example.
If we are told someone needs help, food, groceries, a ride to services, or whatever, and do not help, yet know we should, how can we avoid our Christian "mission" in life? We either want to be a Christian and serve God or we want'to "play church".
Weare in the season of joy and giving, why not begin. If you haven't already, why not begin spreading the joy of Christian living. Then make it a habit and continue it into the New Year.
Maybe it would help to remember the old song "Brighten the Comer Where You Are". May God bless us as we work out our salvation and help others come to Christ by our example.
