Sin in the Twenty-First Century

by Tony Huddleston

Is there a difference in sin today than that in the first century? Considering some of the words we hear today, you might think so. Satan has renamed sins to make them more palatable. Consider the following sins and some of their new names:

Adultery / Fornication - Open marriage, Relationship, Love
Homosexuality - Alternate life style
Killing of babies in the womb - A Choice
Drunkenness - A Sickness or Disease
Cursing / Swearing - Colorful Language
False Doctrine - Religious Unity Agreements
Greed, Covetousness - Assertiveness, Ambition

The word sin is rarely used anymore to describe wrong doing. Whatever we call it, however, sin is still sin and still destroys the s()uls of men and women. In Galatians, Paul makes a list of sins, also referred to as "work.s of the flesh", and the final conclusion is this. "...they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God". Galatians 5:19-21.
Satan's deceit began with the temptation of Eve in the garden of Eden, and continues even today. We must not let Satan deceive us by descriping sin in pleasing and enticing words.
As Christians, we must recognize sin for what it is, and with God's help, strive to avoid it. The blood of Christ will cleanse us from sin if we'reloyal to him and put our trust in Him. 1 John 5:5-7. What a wonderful promise! What a wonderful sacrifice Jesus made to make that promise possible! Hebrews 12:2.
