Wonder...Not Wander
by John Thomas
"Sanctify yourselves: for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you." Joshua 3:5(b).
The children of Israel were commanded to follow the ark of the covenant as it left the place where they were. What I would like to emphasize is that the people were commanded to sanctify themselves before they left on their journey. When were they to sanctify themselves? Right now. Why not later? It is imperative to make things right... now. You may not have later. Why were they to sanctify themselves? So that the Lord could do what He wanted to do with the people...bless them and do wonders among them! They were about to begin a new journey.
It is important for us to start on the right foot when we begin something new. It is also important for us to be mindful of God when we are ready to make a new start. The people were about to begin a new journey and it would be impossible to finish without God's blessings! It is important to see that the people had to cleanse themselves before they could receive God's blessings. In our journeys, we can wonder or wander.
We will find ourselves in much better shape if we put God first. It is necessary to make things right with God, before we can receive His blessings and truly appreciate how valuable they are.
As a congregation of God's people, it is important to know that God will bless us in such big ways, that it will make us wonder how He did it with us in His way. But, He will only do "wonder"ful things for us as we choose to sanctify ourselves. The cleaner our lives are before God, the more He will bless us. Let's work together to keep it clean. Let us be good stewards with the time God has given us. If we will give God our lives in humble service and be cleansed through Christ's blood, we will see the amazing things God can do for us...and we will wonder!
