Fear is an emotion that we all feel from time to time. The bad thing about fear is that it can immobilize, and prevent rational thinking. It can even jeopardize our souls.
Let's examine the reasons we become fearful:
1. Lack of Faith - Matthew 14:24-33. When Jesus' disciples saw Him walking on the water, they were afraid. Jesus spake to them "Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid." Then Simon Peter asked Jesus if he could walk out on the water to meet him. Jesus asked him to come, but the waves and the wind soon brought great fear upon Peter and he began to sink.
2. Lack of Preparation- Matthew 25:1-13. We've all experienced situations where we have a role in something and we're not adequately prepared. This of course leads to fear.
In the parable of the ten virgins, five of them were not prepared when the bridegroom came. They pleaded to be let in the door but it was too late.
3. Lack of Obedience - Romans 13:1-4. Paul says if we do evil, then fear follows, and we should be afraid. Referring to the civil government, Paul stated the following:
"For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil." ( Romans 13:4).
Fight fear God's way. Strive daily to be stronger in faith, prepared 'Or service in the Lord's kingdom, and obedient to His word. The Lord will help us if we put our trust in Him.
"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." ( 2 Timothy 1:7)
