An Open Letter to an Encourager
by Bud Lambert
Dear Encourager,
You will never know how down I was the other day when you spoke to me at worship. I had just been through one of the toughest weeks of my life. I was feeling weak, helpless, hopeless, and discouraged. I was thinking, "What's the use; I can't handle all this; Nobody understands what I'm going through and nobody cares." But then you went out of your way and spoke to me.
By pointing out some good things you saw in me and some commendable things I had done, you encouraged me. You reminded me that I am a valuable person and that with God's help I can make it through tough times.
You probably have already forgotten what you said, but I will never forget. I am writing so you will know how much I appreciate you and your willingness to consider others. I thank God for blessing me through your kindness and thoughtfulness. It's wonderful to have a person like you as part of my spiritual family.
In Christian love,
Encouraged
"Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing" ( I Thessalonians 5:11).
"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one anotherand all the more as you see the Day approaching" ( Hebrews 10:24, 25).
