Study the Bible

by Albert England

Outstanding students are individuals who make studying a part of their daily lives. Great strides have been made in the medical field as a result of intensive study. As Christians we are to be students who love to study the Bible. The Lord expects us to study. "Study to show thyself approved unto God" ( 1 Timothy 2:15). The Bereans were commended because, "They received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so" ( Acts 17:11). We are creatures of habit and one of the greatest habits we can develop is that of daily studying the Bible. The Bible is the inspired word of God. We can enrich and deepen our relationship with the Lord through study. A blessing is promised to those who hunger and thirst after righteousness. This promise can only be fulfilled in studying God's word. Peter says, "desire the pure milk of the word that you may grow thereby" ( 1 Peter 2:2). "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge..." ( Hosea 4:6).

We live in a very corrupt society. Many people have no idea how to build and sustain a relationship. The Bible tells us how to develop correct relationships: with one another, with a companion, a child, a brother, in the business world and the greatest of all with God. If these relationships are guided and controlled by the Word of God, there is happiness and peace in this life and a rewarding eternal life. The Bible gives us God's perspective on how we should live and how we can be fruitful for the Lord. The life God wants for us can only be known and understood through regular and diligent study. In fact, James 1:25 states that he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it will be blessed in what he does.

Psalms one says, "blessed is the man whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night."
