"Perhaps" You will See the Bounty of God
by David Shannon
It is foolish for one to speak of the providence of God as if they know for certain how God will work. Only God will know that and only an arrogant individual would claim to have equal knowledge. When Paul dealt with Philemon to receive his runaway servant , Onesimus, he said, "For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever" ( Philemon 15). Notice Paul didn't say Onesimus ran away because God wanted our paths to cross which would encourage him to serve God. He said "Perhaps" it happened that he would be received back as a brother.
Many of you gave liberally Sunday. The Lord promises, "He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully" (2 Cor 9:6). Will you be watching for ways God will liberally bless you over the next few weeks and months as you liberally give to Him? Now, don't be so arrogant as to say, "I know God will give me this or do that for me because of my offering." But do try to notice those unexpected gifts; raises, bonuses, things which cost much less than expected and peace of mind which comes from knowing you sacrificed for the greatest cause on earthThe Lord's Kingdom. "Perhaps" you will notice something this week and wonder, "Perhaps this is bounty from God! I think I have already seen one!
