The Overcomer

by Pat Hackney

For several weeks now we have been studying the book of Revelation in the auditorium class on Sunday mornings. It certainly is a difficult book to fully understand. However, there is one clear message that is repeated again and again throughout the book. That message is: "A Christian must be an overcomer." Overcoming sin is a lifelong struggle; but the Lord says: "You must be faithful unto death" ( Revelation 2:10).
An overcomer is promised many wonderful blessings. Some of those blessings are found in the letters to the seven churches ( Revelation 2:7-11, 17, 26; 3:5, 12, 21). The following promises are made to him who overcomes:

He will be able to eat from the tree of life.
He will not be hurt by the second death.
He will be given a new name.
He will be given power over nations.
He will not have his name blotted out of the Book of Life.
He will be made a pillar in the temple of God.
He will be granted to sit with Christ on His throne.

Finally, a Christian will inherit eternal life and be in the presence of God forever ( Revelation 21:7).

Won't it be grand to be surrounded by His love and to be with other overcomers.
