Remember
by David Shannon
Posters, pictures, graffiti, murals, tattoos, monuments made of steel used from the Twin Towers, a navel ship is being made using a small portion of the steel from the towers, shirts, flags, flags even painted into the ground, firefighters in Phoenix climbed the stairs of the tallest building in their city on 9-11, children read the names of those lost in New York,.... on and on the ways in which folks memorialized the tragedy and heroism of 9-11-01.
But the most memorialized event in human history has been the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Some wear crosses or Christian t-shirts to remember this sacrifice. Others place bumper stickers on their cars or plaques in their houses to proclaim their faith in a resurrected Lord. Others gather once a year for a sunrise service to reflect upon a day almost two thousand years ago. But think how terrible it would be to not remember the way He would desire. He "took bread...given thanks...said, 'Take eat; this is my body...do this in REMEMBRANCE of Me." In the same manner he took the cup and explained it is the "New Covenant in My blood... drink it, in REMEMBRANCE of Me." ( I Corinthians 11:23-26). Of all the ways to memorialize the Lord's death and resurrection, one is a command. Let's reverently partake!
