From Moses to Mothers about Thanksgiving
by David Shannon
Moses reminded the people to be thankful. Paul did too. Abraham Lincoln reminded Americans by setting aside a day for this purpose. All good mothers have gratitude as a portion of their "in house curriculum."
Why is it that we have to be constantly reminded to be thankful?
Could it be because we do not serve enough?
When one serves in a orphan's home, he always leaves thankful for his parents. When one visits a hospital, he usually leaves thankful for his good health. When one carries boxes of groceries to one in poverty, he leaves thankful for his full refrigerator. When one is diligent in his preparations to teach a Bible class, he is more thankful for teachers that have prepared to teach him. When one studies with the lost, he is thankful for a Gospel that is so powerful! When one comforts at a funeral or later at the home of the deceased, he usually leaves appreciating his family more.
When we don't consider others and go about our days with ourselves as the focus we don't appreciate much! We usually begin to take tremendous blessings for granted and even begin to believe that we deserve more!
A good way to truly be thankful is to unselfishly serve God and others!
Hear Paul as he said, "I THANK God, whom I SERVE..." (II Timothy 1:3)!
