“For I Was Hungry and You Gave Me Food…”

by Steve Hale

“Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: ‘for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me'” ( Matthew 25:34-36, NKJV).

This is the scene of the judgment as given by our Lord. The righteous responded to Jesus by asking Him when they did these things for Him? To this, Jesus said: “…as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me” ( Matthew 25:40).

The Master warns against neglect. Reversing the positive, He speaks to those that did not do these things. These neglectful ones are lost. Why? “…inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me” ( Matthew 25:45).

The condemnation was not for murder, adultery, idolatry, or lying. It was not for coveting, stealing, or slander. It was for neglect! A resounding answer to this, and a glorious opportunity, is our Food/Clothing Room.

Every week, a pantry item is listed in the bulletin. It is very cost effective, and will cost us little on a weekly basis. But, it ministers to “the least” among us, and fulfills the very ministry by which Jesus said we will be judged.

Therefore, let’s have 100% participation with the pantry items every week. Since this is new, we have not had the contributions to the Food/Clothing Room we had hoped. I’m sure, though, that once we’ve adjusted to the system, this will be rectified. There are bins all around the building. In these, you are encouraged to put your weekly pantry items.

A number of hurting families have already been helped. This team has done a masterful job of organization. People are lined up on a weekly basis to come to the Food/Clothing Room and minister to the hurting. If you haven’t seen the shelves of food, racks of clothes, along with toiletry and personal items, you must see and tour it. This team has done a wonderful job! This is a great work that needs your support!
